Voimhaut

Voimhaut ( Lorraine Wémhaut ) is a municipality with 263 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle, about 22 kilometers east of Metz.

The village was first mentioned in 1316 as Waimwalz. In 1552 it was occupied by France and annexed what was recognized in the 1648 Peace of Westphalia.

1871-1918 was Voimhaut temporarily to the German Empire, but French remained the official and vernacular. 1915-18 named the German authorities to the place in Wainwalz.

During the Nazi occupation ( 1940-44 ), in turn, the German authorities gave the village wine valley.
