Valmunster

Valmunster ( German Valmünster ) is a commune with 99 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. The name of the place goes to the German words " surge " ( pilgrimage, pilgrimage ) and " Munster " (church) back.

Location

Valmunster is in the original German-speaking part of Lorraine between Boulay -Moselle and Bouzonville, a few kilometers from the border of the Saarland.

The church " Saint -Jean -Baptiste " (John the Baptist ) is first mentioned in the 10th century, making it over 1000 years old. The present building dates from the 12th century in the core and in 1537 was converted into a rib-vaulted hall church. Next to the church is a plain 17th century castle.
