Pontpierre, Moselle

Pontpierre ( German Steinbiedersdorf, Lorraine Stémbidaschtroff ) is a commune of 770 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The community is located east of Pontpierre Faulquemont and south of Saint- Avold at the German Nied ( Nied Allemande ).

History

First mentioned in 1026 as a web worthies village (1604: Pont de Pierre ).

The place was formerly part of the county Kriechingen and in 1793 occupied by France and annexed what was recognized in the 1801 Peace of Luneville. His French name, which refers to the bridge over the Nied, the place was only afterwards.

1871-1918 was temporarily Pontpierre again to the German Reich.

Pontpierre had in the 18th century, a small Jewish community, about 1999, a book was published, which was also translated into English and Russian.
