Varize (Moselle)

Varix ( German Waibelskirchen, Lorraine Wibelskirch ) is a commune with 524 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region, about 21 kilometers east of Metz.

History

The town was first mentioned in 893 as Wibilis Kiricha and for centuries is already on the French side of the former German - French language border. Since 1766 he is part of France.

On 1 December 1973, the westernmost neighboring Vaudoncourt ( Wieblingen ) was incorporated to the south hamlet Plappecourt ( Peplingen ) and Léoviller ( Leoweilerhof ) belong. Vaudoncourt is French since 1769, previously it was part of the Austrian exclave Rollingen.

Varix and Vaudoncourt 1871-1918 were temporarily again to the German Empire, but French remained the official and vernacular.
