Vatimont

Vatimont ( Lorraine Vautieumont, German Wallersberg ) is a commune with 323 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region, about 28 kilometers east of Metz.

The place was first mentioned in the 12th century as Walterimont and has traditionally been on the French side of the former German - French language border. Since 1766 he is part of France.

At the town hall, an original stone from the Bastille is issued since 1791, which is embedded in a wall.

1871-1918 was temporarily Vatimont again to the German Empire, but French remained the official and vernacular. Vatimont had at that time a great deal more inhabitants (1910: 467 inhabitants).
