Mode
- The winners of the World Group play in the semifinals to reach the finals.
- The losers of the first round of the World Group play against a winner of the World Group II first round. These winners play in the World Group in 2012 and the losers play in the 2012 World Group II
- The losers of the World Group II first round played against an experienced team. The qualified teams consisted of two teams of Europa-/Afrika-Zone and each with a team from the Asien-/Ozeanien-Zone and the America zone. The winners play in the 2012 World Group II and the losers in the respective zone.

Play-offs
Four teams qualified from the Zone Group I, two teams from the Europa-/Afrika-Zone, a team from the Asien-/Ozeanien-Zone and one from the Americas zone. Because of the heavy Tōhoku earthquake on 11 March, the match between Japan and Argentina has been postponed. The originally scheduled in Tokyo Ariake Colussium play-off meeting took place from 16th to 17th July, 2011 Beans Dome in Miki instead.
