Arzviller

Arzviller ( German Arzweiler ) is a commune of 543 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Sarrebourg and Canton Phalsbourg.

The place is known by the ship lift Saint-Louis/Arzviller.

Geography

Arzviller located about nine kilometers east of Sarrebourg on the watershed between the Saar and anger. The municipal area is under crossed by a 2310 m long tunnel of the Rhine- Marne Canal.

History

The place was only from 1661 to France, then was by the Peace of Frankfurt 1871 again German and French after the First World War. Even at the time of the Second World War, the region was again under German administration.
