The Aviva Stadium ( Irish Staidiam Aviva ) is the new home of the Irish Rugby Union Team and the Irish national football team in the Irish capital Dublin. The new arena by Taoiseach Brian Cowen was officially inaugurated on May 14, 2010.

History

The stadium has 51,700 seats, all covered. It replaces the 1872 opened Lansdowne Road Stadium, which was demolished in 2007 and made way for the Aviva Stadium. The rights to the name for 10 years went to the insurance company Aviva Group Ireland, the € 44 million paid for it. Of the € 410 million total cost of the Irish government contributed € 191 million; Rugby and Football Federation shared the rest of the sum.

The stadium has a horseshoe shape. While the West, East and the South Stand are created vierstöckig, the north rank is only a single whistle. The reason is that the sports facility is located in the city and homes in the north stand right next to the stadium. On the second floor of the stadium are 10,000 premium seats available; In addition, located on the third floor VIP boxes with 1,300 seats. Inside the stadium, there are more than 50 rooms for events such as exhibitions, conferences, press conferences or banquets. The press gallery has 200 places for journalists ( if necessary to 400 expandable). The facade of the arena is glazed and the roof is covered with a transparent plastic skin. The Aviva Stadium is the first Irish Elite stadium.

In addition to the home games of rugby and football team, the Leinster rugby team receives their opponents at the Aviva Stadium. Since 2010, the FAI Cup final is annually held here. Also, the UEFA Europa League final to be held in Dublin in 2010. Since the reconstruction would have been till then but not completed, the final was moved to the Hamburg Arena and Dublin was awarded the hosting of the final match of 2011. On 11 August 2010 the first football international match of the Irish national team against Argentina kicked off the new stadium. It ended 1-0 for the Argentines.

The Aviva Stadium in 2011 was the first home of the newly created Nations Cup with teams from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. The football tournament continues the British Home Championship, which was played from 1883 to 1984.

On 18 May 2013, the final of European Champions Rugby Heineken Cup 2012/13 took place here. The home team could win the third title in a row, but different from already in the preliminary round. The multiple French Ruby Master RC Toulon won the competition in an all-French final in front of over 50,000 spectators.

In the new arena also hosts concerts, as occurred, for example, the singer Michael Bublé on 24 September 2010 as the first artist in the Dublin stadium. Even Madonna and Lady Gaga did on her tours station at the Aviva Stadium.
