Flag of Djibouti

The flag of Djibouti was first hoisted on 27 June 1977, when Djibouti gained its independence from metropolitan France.

Description and significance

The flag consists of two equal horizontal stripes of blue on top and green at the bottom. The stripes are interrupted at the left margin with a white isosceles triangle in which a red five-pointed star is shown.

Blue is the traditional color of Issa, green represents the traditional color of Afar. The white triangle stands for peace and the red star symbolizes the unity of the five districts. The colors can also as symbols of the earth (green), the sea and the sky (blue ) and for peace ( white) can be interpreted. The red star represents the unity of the country
