Flag of the Cayman Islands
The flag of the Cayman Islands was introduced in its present form on 25 January 1999. In 1958 a similar version has already been used.
Description
The flag of the Cayman Islands is a modified Blue Ensign with the coat of arms of the Cayman Islands in the fly. The Union Jack in the flag indicates that the islands are a British overseas territory.
History
Originally, only the Union Jack was used in the Cayman Islands. On April 3, 1957, the Legislature of the Cayman Islands applied for the grant of a coat of arms by the British Queen Elizabeth II. On January 13, she decided that the crest should be used on a white disk on a Blue Ensign for the islands. Flag and coat of arms were finally introduced in this form on 14 May 1958, however, until 1993, not by a separate law. In 1998 the law was revised and amended in 2002. Originally, the use of the flag was approved for trade and commerce. On 25 January 1999 the UK MoD removed the white disk of the flag and the coat of arms enlarged.

On the merchant flag, the coat of arms on a Red Ensign is shown, but otherwise it corresponds to the usual flag. Even with the merchant flag, the coat of arms was mapped to 1999 on a white disk.
