Geographical regions of Turkey

As Geographic Areas of Turkey ( Turkish Türkiye'nin coğrafi bölgeleri ) or regions of Turkey are seven Turkish regions called, which lie within the borders of Turkey in the landscapes of Anatolia and Thrace.

Introduction

The division into seven regions was primarily done according to similar climatic characteristics. Therefore, the landscape and the land use of the areas within the respective regions is very similar. Each region therefore differs primarily by its climate (eg Black Sea Region - moderate ), and also by their land use (eg Sea of ​​Marmara - industrial region, Eastern Anatolia - dominated by agriculture ), location, vegetation, fauna, Erdbeschaffenheiten (eg as red soil, forest area), geographic characteristics (eg mountainous).

In 1941 the 1st Geography Congress held in Ankara. Many scientists placed after a long cooperation in this Congress their findings. One of the results was the geographical division into seven regions and 21 sub- sub-regions or regions / areas. This division into geographical areas of Turkey has no administrative and political importance.

Four of the seven regions were named after the adjacent seas, Aegean, Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Sea of ​​Marmara. The remaining three regions were named according to their geographic location in Anatolia: Central, Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia.
