Heidekreis

The Heidekreis ( to 31 July 2011 district of Soltau -Fallingbostel ) is a district in Lower Saxony. It lies almost entirely in the Lüneburg Heath, after which he is named. County seat is Bad Fallingbostel, largest city is Walsrode.

Location

The Heidekreis bordered to the west by the districts of Verden and Rotenburg ( Wumme), on the north by the districts of Harburg and Lüneburg, on the east by the districts of Uelzen and Celle and to the south by the Hannover region and the Nienburg / Weser.

History

The district of Soltau- Fallingbostel was on 1 August 1977 from the old counties Fallingbostel Soltau and as well as a municipality of the district of Uelzen. In the district election on 14 January 2007, Manfred Ostermann (independent), supported by the local SPD, Alliance 90/The Greens and a civil list, elected with 52.83 % of the votes cast on the new full-time district administrator.

Cities fusion to the city Böhmetal

By 2011, a merger of the town of Bad Fallingbostel with the municipalities and Walsrode Bomlitz was projected to the new city Böhmetal.
