Liederschiedt ( German songs Scheid ) is a commune with 136 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Sarreguemines and Bitche Canton.

Geography

The community Liederschiedt located in the extreme north-east of Lorraine, on the border with the German state of Rhineland- Palatinate. The immediate German neighboring community is Schweix in the district of West Palatinate. The territory of Liederschiedt is part of the Regional Natural Park of the Northern Vosges, the biosphere reserve Palatinate Forest - Vosges du Nord.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1313 in a document of the Abbey Sturzelbronn. The place name is composed of two parts. One is the personal name Leudo and on the other from the Old German word for forest, vagina. This term could also indicate a watershed, because the place is situated on a mountain ridge. The name Leudo changed over Liuthar after songs, so therefore has no relation to the song. From 1790 to 1802 Liederschiedt belonged to the Canton Breidenbach, then Volmunster, until it was finally added to the canton of Bitche in 1834.

Demographics

Education and Social

Since 1995 Liederschiedt can show the first ( and so far only) French-German kindergarten. The peculiarity lies in the bilingual education of children under merger of the two systems of the German kindergarten and the French École Maternelle. This is to improve mutual understanding of both cultures and directions are created. The pilot project was initiated and continued jointly by the German state of Rhineland- Palatinate and the French region of Lorraine. The children come from the French communities Liederschiedt, Haspelschiedt and Roppeviller and from the German communities Schweix and Hilst.
