Lignerolle is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Lignerolle is located at 760 m above sea level. M., 6 km west-northwest of Orbe and 14 km west-southwest of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The farming village stretches along the southern slope of Suchet in a depression in the north of the valley of the Orbe.

The area of ​​10.6 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Vaud Jura. The communal land extends from the foot of the Jura to the northwest over the densely wooded and broken down by two little valley escarpment (Les Fourmillières and Montoulevet ) to the anticline Suchet. Population

With 367 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Lignerolle one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 94.6 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.0 % and 0.9 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Lignerolle amounted in 1900 to 308 inhabitants. After that, they hovered around 300 inhabitants, went back to 1980 to 262 inhabitants, since a significant population increase was observed again.

Economy

Lignerolle was until the mid-20th century, a predominantly coined by farming village. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1165 under the name Line Roles. Later, the names Lineroules ( 1228 ) and Lignerolles (1867 ) published. Its name is attributed to the Latin word linum ( flax). Lignerolle belonged since the Middle Ages to the reign Les Clées. From this it broke up in 1302, and together with the neighboring Ballaigues own little rule. The town knew a certain prosperity thanks to its location on the trade route over the Jougnepass. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536 was Lignerolle part of the bailiwick of Yverdon. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. Attractions

The parish church of Saint -Vit is mentioned in 1228 and probably goes back to a church from the 9th century. The church was in the 15th century by fire.
