Maisonsgoutte

Maisonsgoutte ( German Meisengut or Meis God ) is a municipality with 818 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the northern Vosges in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. She is a member of the Communauté de communes du Canton de Villé and one of the border towns of Alemannic dialect area. Belongs to this community and the district Wagenbach.

Name

First, the place was mentioned as Dyezelbach or Thieselbach. Then it's in the sources Hüszelbach and in the 14th century Hisselbach. This corresponds to today's spelling Häuselbach and thus the meaning of the French name Maisonsgoutte (, Häuser', Bach '). Meisengut and Meis God are morphological retransmissions from the French.
