Marieux

Marieux ( Picard: Mariu ) is a northern French village with 111 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality belongs to the canton Acheux -en- Amiénois and is part of the Communauté de communes du Pays du Coquelicot.

Geography

Marieux is located on the department road D11 from Amiens to Arras, following the Roman road and at the same time forms the western boundary of the municipality, and forms the west of this road located Montplaisir ( part of the community Sarton in the Pas -de- Calais ) is a municipal unit. The distance to Acheux -en- Amiénois is 8 km.

History

The Castle of Marieux served in the First World War as the headquarters of a British Army Corps. On October 25, 1915, a meeting of King George V and the French President Raymond Poincare took place here.
