Hangest-sur-Somme

Hangest -sur -Somme ( Picard: hange -su - sonme ) is a northern French village with 704 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Somme department, Picardie region. The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Amiens, is part of the Communauté de communes de l' Ouest d' Amiens, in the canton Picquigny.

Geography

Hangest is the left bank of the canalized Somme at the mouth of the river Saint -Landon opposite Bourdon 7 km west-northwest of Picquigny to the department D3 and D69 roads and the railway line from Amiens to Abbeville, which has a station here. With Bourdon Hangest is connected by a bridge.

History

On June 5, 1940, a massacre of Senegalese auxiliary troops took place in Hangest, the 7th Panzer Division ( Wehrmacht ) will be charged.
