History

Yzeux was first mentioned in 1066 as Hysoi 1129 as Issoi, 1204 and 1301 as Yzeu Iseul. In 1160 Henry d' Yzeux presented the monastery Le Gard in Crouy -Saint -Pierre everything he possessed in Yzeux. From 1353 Seigneurie Yzeux belonged to the monastery Le Gard. However, not the whole town seems to have belonged to the monastery, for the family Quiéret bore the title of Seigneur Yzeux from the 14th to the 16th century. The Famechon family bore the title in the 18th century until the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ). 1793 Yzeux received the status of a municipality (as Iseux ) and 1801 the right to local self-government in the wake of the French Revolution.
