Minato, Tokyo

Minato (Japanese港区, -ku, dt 'port' ) is one of the 23 districts of Tokyo Prefecture. It is located in the southern center of Tokyo, the capital of Japan.

History

The district was formed on March 3, 1947 by the merger of the former municipalities Akasaka, Azabu, and Shiba in 1943 resolved city of Tokyo.

Minato is the headquarters of oil company Japan Energy, the technology groups Sony, Toshiba and NEC Corporation, and the tobacco company Japan Tobacco.

Mayor of Minato 's third term of office of the former municipal officials Masaaki Takei, who was recently confirmed in office in 2012. The District Parliament ( most recently in 2011 ) chosen with uniform regional elections and has 34 regular members.

In Tokyo Prefecture Minato Parliament is represented by two Members; at the last election in 2013 the LDP was able to win both seats in the two- mandate constituency.

For the national House of Representatives, district, together with Chiyoda and Shinjuku the prestigious constituency Tokyo 1, the case of the 2012 election, the Liberal Democrat newcomer Miki Yamada almost won against the experienced Democratic incumbent Banri Kaieda.
