Oddvar Brå

Oddvar Brå ( born March 16, 1951 in Hølonda at Melhus ) is a retired Norwegian cross-country skier.

Life and career

He was one of the strongest Norwegian cross-country skier in the 1970s and was twice win the Cross Country World Cup in season 1974/75 and 1978/79. In Olympic Games, he managed in 1972 and 1980 to win with the Norwegian season one silver medal. His best individual performance in 1988 was the fourth place in the 15 km race.

In 1982, he won the gold medal in the 15 km and in the relay at the World Championships. In 1973 he received the Gold Medal Morgenbladet, 1975, the Holmenkollen medal in 1987 Egebergs Ærespris.

Historically it was in 1982 when he broke the stick and yet in a thrilling finish won gold at home in Holmenkollen World Cup relay race. Today is a very common saying in Norway "Where were you when Brå the stick broke? ". This phrase is used when someone blame for something, because he was not on the spot.
