Owen B. Pickett

Owen Bradford Pickett ( born August 31, 1930 in Richmond, Virginia; † October 27, 2010 in Virginia Beach, Virginia ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party.

Life and career

Pickett studied at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, where he received his Bachelor of Science in 1952. At the Law School of the University of Richmond in 1955, he received his Bachelor of Laws. In the same year he was admitted to the legal profession of the State of Virginia and practiced as a lawyer in Richmond.

From 1972 to 1986 Pickett sat in the House of Representatives from Virginia. During this time he served from 1980 to 1982 as chairman of the Democratic Party in Virginia. In 1986 he was elected to Congress and represented there from 3 January 1987 to January 3, 2001 the state of Virginia in the House of Representatives of the United States. In the elections to the 107th Congress in 2000, he opted not to run again.
