Thomas Van Swearingen

Thomas Van Swearingen (* May 5, 1784 in Shepherdstown, Jefferson County, Virginia; † August 19, 1822 ) was an American politician. Between 1819 and 1822 he represented the state of Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Born in what is now West Virginia Thomas Van Swearingen attended the public schools of his home. Through its professional development beyond its political activities, nothing is handed down. He was a member of the Federalist party and sat 1814-1816 in the House of Virginia. In the congressional elections of 1818 he was in the second electoral district of Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Edward Colston on March 4, 1819. After a re-election in 1818, he could remain until his death on August 19, 1822 in Congress. He was a third cousin of Congressman Henry D. Swearingen of Ohio.
