Joseph T. Deal

Joseph Thomas Deal ( * November 19, 1860 in Surry, Surry County, Virginia; † March 7, 1942 in Norfolk, Virginia ) was an American politician. Between 1921 and 1929 he represented the state of Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Joseph Deal attended the common schools and then studied until 1882 at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington. He then worked in the construction and wood construction. Since 1891 he has been resident in Norfolk, where he headed 1905-1910 the Committee for local development. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. In July 1908 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver, was nominated on the William Jennings Bryan for the third time as a presidential candidate. From 1910 to 1912 Deal sat in the House of Virginia. In 1919 he was a member of the State Senate.

In the congressional elections of 1920 deal was in the second electoral district of Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Edward Everett Holland on March 4, 1921. After three re- elections, he was able to complete in Congress until March 4, 1929 four legislative sessions. In 1928 he was not re-affirmed. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Joseph Deal took his previous activities on again. He died on March 7, 1942 in Norfolk.
