Puyméras

Puyméras is a commune with 654 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vaucluse and the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Puyméras is located about 5 km north-east of Vaison -la -Romaine and occupies a corner of the northern Vaucluse, directly adjacent to the Drome region. Surrounding municipalities are Faucon, Saint- Romain -en- Viennois and Villedieu in Vaucluse, and Mirabel- aux- Baronnies, Piégon, Châteauneuf -de- Bordette, Bénivay -Ollon and mérindol -les- Oliviers in Drôme. Nearest large towns are Valréas in North West ( 17 km), Carpentras in the south ( 25 km) and Orange in the south west (30 km).

The municipality is located in the Baronnies area between the rivers Ouvèze and Eygues. To the west of the town center of 13.2 km Lauzon flows past long, which rises in the neighboring municipality Piégon and ends as a right tributary to the Ouvèze. The highest point of the village is 846 meters above the Gros Moure on the northern border of Châteauneuf -de- Bordette and Bénivay -Ollon.

Traffic

The west of the municipal area is crossed by the departmental road D938 which leads coming from Vaison -la -Romaine in the direction Nyons. East of the D938 branches off the D46 with which one comes after Mollans -sur -Ouvèze.

History

Traces of human presence date back to the Neolithic period. The municipal area a Feuersteinschleiferei and a tomb was discovered from this period. For the 3rd and 4th century Gallo- Roman extraction of mineral resources could be detected.

The settlement of Puyméras originated in the Middle Ages and was for a long time under the rule of the Counts of Toulouse. Due to several marriages and sharing of territory, the feud passed to different dynasties like something the Taulignans and Montauban.
