Snooker season 1992/1993

At snooker season 1992/1993 were 16 professional snooker tournaments, which were held between September 1992 and the World Cup final on 3 May 1993.

For the second year in a row the Scot Stephen Hendry won the world title and defended 1st place in the Snooker world rankings. The future world champion Ken Doherty from Ireland won his first ranking tournament win at the Welsh Open.

For the 1992/93 season there was a rule change: For the first time four so-called minor ranking tournaments were organized, their value for the world rankings was at a tenth of the normal tournaments. In addition to the Benson & Hedges Championship which concerned three Strachan Challenge tournaments, held in Aldershot ( 2x) and Sheffield.

However, many top players do not take account of the low score part in these tournaments, so this minor ranking scheme was abolished after this year now.
