Thun District

The municipality of tuna until 31 December 2009, an administrative unit of the Canton of Bern. The district with capital Thun included 26 municipalities with 92'248 inhabitants ( 31 December 2008) to 267 km ²:

History

The Counts of Kyburg received in 1218 from zähringischem owned by the City Court Thun and the exterior office with Steffi castle and Sigriswil. After Burgdorfer war, in 1384, the area fell to Bern. During the Helvetic Republic, 1798-1803, with the canton of Oberland, was the only official from the communities Thun, Oberhofen and Sigriswil, the other communities remained with the canton of Bern. This situation continued until the collapse of the Helvetic Republic, then the whole area of the Canton of Bern fell to again. The municipality had the above community inventory from 1863, when the communities Buchholterberg and Wachseldorn were affiliated with the district.
