Westertimke

Westertimke is a municipality in Lower Saxony Rotenburg (Wümme ).

History

The place was mentioned as Westertimbeke the first time in a document in the 14th century.

During the Second World War it was a sub-camp of the POW camp of the military district commands X, were interned in the merchant ship crews from 42 nations. The camp was subsequently used as a refugee camp for female adolescents from 1952 to 1961 and then to the barracks of an Air Force unit ( FlaRakBtl 31) expanded. Today it is the industrial area of the town.

The village lies on the main road 133, which connects it to Bremen and Zeven.

Two kilometers northwest of Westertimke is the Segelfluggelände Tarmstedt - Westertimke, which is operated by the gliding of Bremen. There gliders and motor gliders operation is usually carried out at the weekend.
