Wickerschwihr

Wickerschwihr is a commune with 775 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district of Colmar, in the canton of Andolsheim and founded the 1996 Local Government Association Pays du Ried Brun.

Geography

The community Wickerschwihr is located seven kilometers north-east of Colmar.

History

The area around Wickerschwihr was settled very early. Findings from the present-day municipality are shown in the sub- Linden-Museum in Colmar. The oldest objects are assigned to the period around the year 450.

The now independent municipality was created in 1837 by the detachment from the community Holtzwihr.

On 8 June 1940, the villagers had to be evacuated by the invasion of the German troops. The liberation Wickerschwihrs was on 27 January 1945.

Partnership

Along with the neighboring communities Bischwihr, Holtzwihr and Riedwihr maintains Wickerschwihr partnership relations with the German community Bahlingen am Emperor chair.
