Wohlen is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of the same name in Switzerland.

Well today is a suburban or suburban community of Bern with the places Hinterkappelen, Wohlen, Illiswil, Murzelen, Inner Mountain, Uettligen, Möriswil and Säriswil. There are also several hamlets Oberdettigen, Mayrhofen and Wölfli Ried.

Geography

The southern boundary of the municipality is made of Wohlensee, a reservoir of BKW FMB Energie AG for the Aare. The neighboring municipalities in the north clockwise are starting Meikirch, Kirchlindachstrasse, Bern, Frauenkappelen, Muhlenberg, Radelfingen and Seedorf BE.

History

The first mention of the name there was in 1185, in a papal bull.

Sports

Founded in 1973 SC Wohlensee is the only football club in the community Wohlen. The Home Place, an athletic field Ey, directly at Wohlensee below the superstructure Kappelenring in Hinterkappelen.

Established in 1988, floorball team Wohlen TV, a subsection of the TV Wohlen, is the largest floorball club in the community.

Nature

The municipality has on her 36 -square-kilometer area over a diverse natural landscape with various chambers of Wohlensee up to the Frienisberg. The Wohlensee is a water and migratory bird reserve of national importance. The reserve covers the upper part of the well- lake, from where Halenbrücke to Wohleibrücke. It is an important resting place for wading birds, swimming and diving ducks. In addition, it provides a suitable wintering waterfowl and for certain characterized by an above-average number of species.

Attractions

The Protestant parish church in Wohlen dates from the 12th century and was expanded in the late Gothic period.
