Zoufftgen

Zoufftgen ( German Suftgen, Lorraine Suftge ) is a commune with 933 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Thionville -Est and Canton Cattenom.

Geography

Zoufftgen is located about 11 km north of Thionville directly on the border with Luxembourg at an altitude 200-395 m above sea level. The territory of the municipality covers 16.7 km ².

History

The area has been since 1769, with an interruption from 1871 to 1918 ( National Rural Alsace- Lorraine), France, and is surrounded by large forests.

Zoufftgen is situated on the E 25, the nearest motorway exit is less Kanfen. At the site over the railway line runs from Thionville to Luxembourg SNCF. On 11 October 2006 collided in Zoufftgen two SNCF trains and CFL, where six people were killed and twenty others were injured.
