Belpberg

Belpberg was until 31 December 2011, a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. The municipal administration was located in the village of Linden.

Geography

Belpberg is located on 802 m above sea level. M., 11 km south-southeast of the capital of the canton of Bern ( straight line ). The scattered settlement without a real center of the village extends along the broad ridge of Belpberg between the Aare and the Guerbetal.

The area of ​​5.7 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Belpberg. The main part of the area is occupied by the ridge or from the high plateau of the Belpberg ( on average 800 meters above sea level. M. ). The eastern municipal boundary runs along the edge of the forest above the steep drop to the Aare valley. On the Chutzen is 893 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of the municipality. To the west of the municipality floor extends over the steep forested slope ( Chiefferenwald ) down to the edge of the Gürbeebene ( the border is the Strait of Belp to Gelterfingen ). Belpberg consists of the hamlet settlements Linden (802 m above sea level. M. ), Fuchsacker ( 771 m above sea level. M. ), Hohburg ( 792 m above sea level. M. ), Upper Hüseren ( 800 m above sea level. M. ) Neuhus ( 788 m above sea level. M. ), Grossmatt ( 764 m above sea level. M. ) and Hofstetten ( 800 m above sea level. Population

With 423 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011) Belpberg was one of the small communities of the Canton of Bern. Of the residents 99.4 % are German, 0.3 % Italian-speaking and 0.3 % speak Portuguese (as of 2000). The population of Belpberg amounted in 1850 to 501 residents in 1900 to 439 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated initially in the range 430-470 people. Since 1960 (441 inhabitants), a slow decrease in population was recorded.

Economy

Belpberg was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the dairy and cattle breeding and agriculture have an important place in the economic structure of the population. Outside the primary sector only a few jobs in the community are available, including a carpenter. Many workers are also commuters who work mainly in the larger towns in the area and in the agglomeration of Bern.

Traffic

The community is located far away from the major thoroughfares, but is relatively easy to reach from Belp. The nearest links to the motorway A6 ( Bern- Thun) is located approximately 7 km from the village. By Postbus course, which at certain times of the day the route of Belp via Belpberg to Kirchdorf ( BE) served, the community was tied to 2005 to the network of public transport. Today, she is cut off from it.

History

Celtic and Roman coins found point to an early inspection and settlement of Belpberg. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1342 under the name Belpberge. Later, the names Belperg ( 1380 ) and Beltperg ( 1390 ) published. The etymology of the word stem Belp is unclear.

The area of Belpberg belonged in the Middle Ages to the rule - Belp Montenach, which was under the suzerainty of the city of Bern since 1298. The high jurisdiction lay with the district court Seftigen. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) Belpberg belonged during the Helvetic Republic to the District Seftigen and from 1803 to Oberamt Seftigen, which was given the status of an office district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831.

Attractions

In the hamlets stately farmhouses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved. Particularly noteworthy is the Hofgruppe Grossmatt with a farmhouse from 1751 Belpberg does not have its own church.; it belongs to the parish of Belp.
