The Federal Highway 8 has a length of more than 800 kilometers.

History

Origin

The Federal Highway 8 runs largely along the historic Via Publica.

Expansion of road in the 18th century

1750 began its expansion to the road on the stretch Kitzingen market Bibart. A few years later and the subsequent distance from Kitzingen to Würzburg, was developed to Art Street. This 1764-1766 built stretch led between Gerbrunn and Biebelried on a large dam with several bridges through a swampy terrain. Due to static problems at the Stone Bridge, the route guidance was abandoned in 1770 and built a new road over rotting village. The remains of the former road layout on Gerbrunn can be seen as a technical monument ( Roman Bridge ) today. Until 1775, the section Würzburg- Bischbrunn -Oberndorf was, at that time about Lengfurt, expanded.

The road from Frankfurt to Limburg was also developed 1768-1780 for the road. The section between Aschaffenburg and Bischbrunn -Oberdorf ( Spessarter Chaussee ) was 1777-1885 traced out and redeveloped. The section of line between Frankfurt and Königstein was not removed due to political differences. Instead, the king Steiner Street between Königstein and Frankfurt-Höchst in 1819 expanded to Art Street. This road direction ran within the Duchy of Nassau and allowed a journey from the Main Taunus without exceeding the border that separated the Duchy and the Free City of Frankfurt. This route on maximum remained until the construction of 1934 opened Highest bypass exist.

Earlier routes and designations

The Bavarian state highways are numbered according to their starting location:

  • State Road No. 114: Regensburg - Straubing - Passau
  • State Road No. 148: Würzburg - Aschaffenburg

In the original numbering 1932, the long-haul, later National Highway 8 resulted also by Emmerich to Passau. After the Anschluss this road was extended as part of the unification of the road system on April 1, 1940 to the Slovakian border at Pressburg.

Substitutions

Already in 1938, the historic route has been replaced by some ring roads. In Kitzingen a ring road with a new bridge over the Main was built in Regensburg was to relieve the Stone Bridge, the Adolf Hitler Bridge (now the Nibelungen Bridge ) was built and opened on 18 June 1938.

In the north of Düsseldorf, the old B 8 was gradually replaced by a motorway-like force driveway. The section between the junction Kaiserwerth and frog pond was completed in June 2009. The last section of the dual carriageway between frog pond and the connecting point of Duisburg- Süd with the A 524 / A 59 / B 288 has been released since mid-2012. The new motorway junction Duisburg-Süd, which replace the old terminal and the B 8 is directly connected to the extended A 524 is realized in four sub-steps, and expected to be completed by 2014. The journey relations North-South, South-North and South - East have already been released.

Konigsteiner centrifugal

The B8 led by the core of the town of Königstein im Taunus. As a first step a relief 1958/59 the king Steiner roundabout at the northern end of the common street layout of B 8 and B 519 and B 455 crossing was built. The large two-lane roundabout was decorated in the center with a fountain. In addition, the intra- local ring road, today's Le Cannet - Rocheville Street was built on the 1972 traffic flows.

The King Steiner gyro led for decades to long traffic jams. Long time there were plans for a bypass of Kelkheim and Königstein, which should alleviate this bottleneck. This construction project was politically controversial. While the affected communities supported the measure, environmentalists criticized the environmental impact. During the period of May 5, 1979 until the evacuation on 12 May 1981 was on a pre- built dam at the time already planned new route, the longest successful site occupation in the Federal Republic of Germany instead ( at the southern end of the common street guide of B 8 and B 519 ). For almost two years people lived under the most primitive conditions in a cabin village which was known as the " dam " and a long time was a regular weekend destination for families all over the environment. The measure is also known as former A 647 and is in FTIP 2003 " Further Requirements " without planning law, but with naturschutzfachlichem design contract, ie recorded with high ecological risk. In December 2009 the local bypass Königstein was buried by the Regional Assembly South Hesse.

Parallel to these plans said jam -prone centrifugal turbine is moderate and mehrspurig rebuilt and partially with noise barriers since October 2005. The renovations have been completed since 2010. Furthermore, traffic lights have been installed that will allow pedestrians a safe crossing of the roads.

Bypass Esch

In Esch, the Federal Road 275 and State Road 8 Due meeting by the topography is the construction of a bypass road consuming. Due to the high volume of traffic, the citizens' initiative committed " aussenrum place in mid- Through " for the construction of a bypass road. The Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan, the bypass is, however, only classified as " other needs", ie as a low priority, since it is not an accident black spot is still a storage place.

Reclassifications

On 1 January 2007 the section between Troisdorf and Hennef -West was rezoned from national road 333. The cross-town Hennef was rededicated after the construction of the bypass A 560 to state road.

On the same date that the section between the motorway junction Dinslaken West and Duisburg- Wanheimerort to L 1 was rededicated (replacement through A 59 ).

Between Aschaffenburg and Marktheidenfeld the B 8 was rededicated to state road 2312. This was the most extensive parallel guidance of the B 8 with the A3 in this area. In Aschaffenburg B 8 ends since after the end of the four-lane motorway feeder road (coming from the A 3) immediately before the Aschaffenburg West ring. At the junction Marktheidenfeld the A 3 B 8 sets then again on their way. The State Street was rededicated in 2315 between the driveway and the old Main bridge in Marktheidenfeld for this purpose, since the B 8 originally arrived from the direction Esselbach in Marktheidenfeld.

On 1 January 2010 the section between the feeder road of AS Opladen the A 3 and the Berliner Platz in Leverkusen -Opladen was rededicated together with the B 232 to L 291 and L 288. The section between Berliner Platz and AS Reusrath (A 542) in Langenfeld ( Rhineland) was rededicated to L 219.

Expansion of state

In the area of Düsseldorf Airport B is 8 expanded highway-like. The pass of the city parts Kaiserwerth and Wittlaer was completed in June 2009. The opening of the final phase of construction to the part completed motorway junction Duisburg- South was on 1 June 2012. 8 The B goes there on the A 59. At the motorway junction Duisburg -Süd, expected completion end of 2014, the B is linked 8 n / A 59 here with the order 2.5 km extended from the current expansion to the west end of A 524. Currently (November 2012) the crossing structure is completed only in part. It can not be branched in every direction, so that alternative routes must be used.

Between Kelkheim north and the A 66 - junction Frankfurt-Höchst and between the junction and the junction Erlensee B 43 B 8 is expanded as highway-like.

From the A3 junction Aschaffenburg - West to Aschaffenburg the road is highway-like expanded and partially designated as a dual carriageway.

Between the Greinbergknoten in Würzburg and the driveway rotting village to A 3, the road is four lanes and crossing-free expanded and locked for bicycles and mopeds.

Between Langenzenn and Fürth B 8 is a highway-like -developed dual carriageway and is referred to as Südwesttangente.

Between Vilshofen Passau and the main road 8 runs parallel to the railway line Regensburg -Passau, between the right bank of the Danube and the foot lion wall for good four kilometers in a confined space. Here the main road no longer meets today's standards development, so that despite regulation ( overtaking, speed limits ) are complaining of serious accidents. In particular, when visibility is poor or winter road traffic participants are different street widths and turning radii undoing.

Blocking for transit truck over twelve tons

Since the B 8 is parallel to A 3 in many parts, it is used as an escape route since the introduction of the HGV toll of truck drivers.

Between Straßkirchen and Osterhofen the B 8 was the first toll route at parallel A3 Nuremberg -Passau for trucks over twelve tons locked since June 2006. Since the summer of 2006, the section between Enzlar (part of market Bibart ) ( B 286) and Dietersheim and the section between Nittendorf and Regensburg is closed to truck through traffic. The block between Nittendorf and Regensburg in September 2011 was canceled due to a pending lawsuit before the competent administrative court (as of November 11, 2011 ).

Curiosities

2006 B 8 resulted in Siegburg on the Europe Square, the same was thus main road and pedestrian area.

In August 2008, the L was 21 in Dinslaken between the junction Dinslaken -south (A 3) and the junction Dinslaken - Hiesfeld (A 59) redesignated as B 8 without " original" directly to the B 8 to be connected.

Right on the main road takes place every year in Fuerth the Michaelis fair. Therefore, the road becomes blocked in this range for about two weeks each.
