Conversano
Conversano is an ancient city in the Italian region of Puglia, whose province of Bari, 30 km south-east of Bari, 7 km from the Adriatic Sea and about 219 meters above sea level. There live 25,860 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) on an area of 126 km ².
History
Conversano was a major county whose counts were related with the Norman rulers in the Kingdom of Sicily and the Kingdom of England in the Middle Ages. Among the counts are:
- Robert Basse Ville, Robert de Basse Ville de Normandy de Loretel Count of Conversano, married Judith of Sicily, daughter of Count Roger I (Haute Ville)
- Goffredo de Basse Ville de Normandy ( Gottfried ), Count of Conversano; Sibilla († 1103), married in 1100 Duke Robert of Normandy ( Rolloniden )

Attractions
- The main attraction is the medieval castle from the time when the Normans and subsequently the Staufer ruled the Kingdom of Sicily.
- The Romanesque Cathedral is the seat of the Diocese of Conversano - Monopoli.
