Fénétrange

Fénétrange ( German Finstingen ) is a commune with 724 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Sarrebourg and is capital of the canton Fénétrange.

Geography

The medieval fortified town still lies on the upper Saar between Sarrebourg and Sarre- Union on the border of Alsace. The German city of Saarbrücken is located about 40 kilometers, the French cities of Nancy and Metz, both situated along the Moselle, 60 or 70 kilometers away. The territory of Fénétrange forming the easternmost tip of the Regional Natural Park of Lorraine.

History

" Vinstringen " was first mentioned in 1070. The place was in 1766 by the Holy Roman Empire, France, Germany 1871 and 1919 back to France.
