Fränk René Schleck ( born April 15, 1980 in Luxembourg ) is a Luxembourgian road cyclists. His brother is the cyclist Andy Schleck.

Career

Schleck, whose father Johny was also a professional cyclist, began in the trained by Claude Conter youth teams, including his older brother Steve and the subsequent Luxembourg cyclist Kim belonged to churches. Later, he spent several years working abroad, eg in De Nardi in Italy or France.

The good contacts Marcel Gilles allowed him to drive a month in Team CSC- Saxo Bank by Bjarne Riis, where he won by good performances a permanent position. His brother Andy drove 2005-2010 also for the team.

On 16 April 2006, he won the Amstel Gold Race.

Another significant success celebrated Schleck on July 18, 2006, when he won the queen stage of the Tour de France from Gap to L' Alpe d' Huez. He was the first Luxembourg cyclist since Edy Schütz in 1966, who won a stage of the Tour de France.

Doping

The Süddeutsche Zeitung claimed in its issue of 27 September 2008 that Schleck was as a customer of the physician Eufemiano Fuentes, after the doping scandal Fuentes is named, unmasked. This was evidenced by a referral to Fuentes from March 2006. Upon request, the newspaper Schleck said that he had not doped. The transferred money was intended for a training program. Schleck even admitted to have had contact with Fuentes that he had, however, these canceled as soon as he heard of his connections to doping. Due to the allegations, the Luxembourg Anti -Doping Agency ALAD was investigating Schleck, the proceeding one but since there is no evidence of attempted doping will still be performed doping.

Schleck was tested after the 13th stage of the 2012 Tour de France positive for the diuretic xipamide. This was announced by the UCI Cycling Union in the evening of July 17. Diuretics are often used to disguise the drug-taking. His team pulled him back on the same day of the tour. On July 20, 2012, the result was confirmed by the analysis of the B sample. In January 2013 Fränk Schleck was retroactively dated 14 July 2012 suspended for one year. He can not participate in the Tour de France 2013. Awards

On 15 December 2006 Fränk Schleck was awarded the best male athletes in Luxembourg in 2006. He had 146 votes ahead of runner-up David Fiegen, the silver medalist in the 800 meters at the European Athletics Championships in 2006.
