Götzens

Götzens is a municipality with 3959 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Innsbruck Land, Tyrol ( Austria ). It is located southwest of Innsbruck on a low mountain range with neighboring communities Natters in the east and in the west Birgitz. The municipality is located in the judicial district of Innsbruck.

Geography

About seven kilometers southwest of Innsbruck, on the western low mountain range, is Götzens. The community functions today primarily as a residential suburb of Innsbruck. The congregation grew sharply after 1964 in Innsbruck, the road to Innsbruck or via the young settlement area New Götzens direction Mutters was expanded during the Olympic Winter Games.

The original rural character comes only in long-drawn, partly heap village -like resolved row village of the village center to the fore. There are also some interesting, under preservation farms.

The coat of arms shows a silver Eichkatzerl ( squirrel) with a golden pin. The coat of arms once led a company based in medieval noble family.

History

The first settlement of the area of Götzens is not clearly understood, however, it was due to strikes in the vicinity of the military camp and Veldidena, assume that the was already settled in Roman times. The initial recorded mention was in 1128 with the names " Gecens ". Vellenberg A castle ( mentioned in 1232) was in the local area, which was one next to the castle Matrei one of the most important bases. The owner changed several times in the 13th century its owner. As self- control and field community is mentioned in 1313 in documents Götzens. the Gerolsbach which flows south of Götzens, was succeeded by a flood in 1575, 1748, 1750, 1781 and 1782 for heavy destruction in the village responsible. the last flood was a reason for the construction of the protection wall, the castle Vellenberg was finally destroyed in the 17th century after two terrible earthquakes. 1964, the infrastructure of the town was built by the Olympic Games.
