Hésingue

Hésingue ( German Häsingen, alsatian Häsiga ) is a commune with 2503 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the canton of Huningue and the Local Government Association, Trois Frontières.

Geography

Hésingue located on the eastern edge of the Sundgau six kilometers northwest of the Basel city center and about 25 kilometers southeast of Mulhouse. Neighboring municipalities are Blotzheim in the north, Saint -Louis in the east, Hegenheim in the south, Buschwiller the southeast, Attenschwiller in the west and Michel -le -Bas in the northwest. A part of the airport Basel- Mulhouse is located on the territory of the municipality Hésingue.

History

During excavations in the municipality artifacts from the Neolithic Age ( 4500 BC to 5500) and the Bronze Age discovered ( 2200-1200 BC). From the 2nd century BC the Celtic tribe of the Rauricii settled in the region. In Gallo -Roman period (52 BC to the 5th century ) was Hésingue on the Roman road from Basel ( Arialbinnum ) to Illzach ( Uruncis ). According to Joseph Schmidlin (1876-1944), the Church of Hésingue stands on the site of a Roman watchtower. At Earthworks Depot discoveries were made which contained Roman coins especially the portrait of the Roman Emperor Aurelian ( 214-275 ) and Maximinus Thrax contributed ( at 172-238 ). In the 5th century, the region was occupied by the Alemanni, later they were followed by the Franks. The origin of the place name falls within the period of Frankish conquest, he shall be composed of the Germanic name " Hasso " and place names mission -ingen. Economy

The main activities are the Hésinguois Horticulture, Arable farming, viticulture, fruit growing and breeding of domestic cattle and hogs. There is an agricultural cooperative and a Cidre on site. The Cidre is located in a former mill, which was already mentioned in 1493. The present building was built in 1780 and 1928 converted into a Cidre.
