The Honda XBR 500 type PC15 is a Japanese motorcycle and was brought in 1985 by Honda in response to the Yamaha SR 500 on the market. The drive is ³ by a single cylinder engine with four valves and a displacement of 499 cm. The engine power of the four-stroke engine is unthrottled 44 hp.

From Year 1985 to 1987, throttled to 27 hp version was offered whose camshaft, jets and pinion were changed. From 1988, the power reduction was achieved with a transmitting reduced intake. The bike has both an electric starter and a kick starter.

In the XBR had refrained until the end of 1986 on the classic spoked wheels and instead uses so-called ComStar composite light-metal wheels, which make the use of tubeless tires possible. As of 1987, the XBR either was - only in the last year of production 1988 - made with spoked wheels with those already in the single-seat Honda Clubman GB500 TT 1985 manufactured for the Japanese and New Zealand market was equipped (identified, inter alia, to burgundy red livery and center stand ) and later the variant from 1989 to 1990 made for the U.S. and Japan GB500 Clubman.

A sought spare parts now - According to the design concept, which introduced the motorcycle in the tradition of British road single cylinder, the XBR was equipped with a removable bench seat hump. Thus, the choice of operation was made possible with one or two seats.

The XBR there were consistently from 1985 to 1988 in Black, in 1985, also in the colors light red and light blue metallic. In 1986 then in dark blue and continue Hellrotmetallic, from 1986 to 1988 in Bordeaux red metallic and silver in 1988. With the year 1988 the production was stopped due to low demand in the German market and tightening noise and emissions regulations in Germany ( as of 1 January 1989).

Because of the time temporarily weak demand XBR were all production years and variants from 1985 to 1988 often only in 1990 or in some cases even after that first registered. A reliable identification of the essential for the procurement of spare parts and type of dethrottling year of manufacture is therefore possible without detailed knowledge usually only based on the first six digits ( numbers / letters ) of the chassis number. An allocation based on typical motor details is not always true due to possible engine change carried out according to engine damage in the last 16 to 21 years.

A list of all production years ( not necessarily the year of first registration ), first digits of the 11- digit vehicle identification number (example: PC156000321 ) and PS versions of the XBR500 on delivery:

Color Code: PB -150 MU = Rhein Blue Metallic (light blue); NH -1 Honda = black; R -124 - C U = Candyalamoanarot (light red ); PB -155 PA = Perlmarinblau ( dkl.blau ), R -104 CU = Candymusenrot ( claret ); NH -132 M = Max metallic silver

Region Code: G = Germany 44 PS; 2Y = Germany throttled version; E = England; ED = Europe Direct; SD = Sweden; SW = Switzerland; U = Australia (according to a prospectus delivered without Kickstarter ); N = Norway

The motors are analogous to the chassis numbers engine numbers with indicator E ( = engine ), which lie at about original engines in the chassis number ( usually about 10 to 100 numbers deviation, rare matching numbers ).

In total, the XBR500 have been officially sold in Germany 8006 piece between 1985 and 1990, according to Honda Germany.

The for a single cylinder in this displacement class and production periods (see Yamaha SR 500; Yamaha SRX 600) very stable and reliable engine was the development of the drives later models such as the Honda NX 650 Dominator, SLR 650 or last FMX 650 (2005 to 2007) consulted. The successful and used for the first time in the Honda XL 600 and Honda XR 600 basic design of the engine was maintained from 1983 to 2007.

Significant design weaknesses were found in the engine of the XBR 500 from a small oil capacity ( 1.7 liters at oil change with filter change, only about 350 ml between min and max. . ) In conjunction with a complex and relatively inaccurate measurability of the actual oil level. There were at low oil bearing damage in the cylinder head and camshaft area, probably one of the most common serious technical damage types of the XBR. Often cracks between spark plug hole and exhaust valves due to predominant operation in urban areas (overheating; occurs mainly in construction from 1985 to 1987 on ). The model years 1985 and 1986 tend to be defective starter freewheels and stress cracks in the rear manifold area of the exhaust (only mated systems). Otherwise, the XBR500 is very reliable with adequate and above all qualified maintenance.
