Horbourg-Wihr

Horbourg- Wihr ( German Horburg- Weier, alsatian Horwrig -Wihr ) is a commune with 5108 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region, in the canton in the arrondissement of Colmar Andolsheim. It is located about three kilometers east of the center of Colmar, from the latter by the Ill and the Autoroute A35 (L ' Alsacienne ) separately.

The municipality was created on 1 January 1973 by the merger of the municipalities and Horbourg Wihr -en- Plaine (German Weier auf'm country elsäss. Wihr uf the country). She is a member of the Association of Municipalities Communauté d' agglomération de Colmar.

History

Named after the capital of the county Horburg came in 1324 to the Counts of Württemberg and thus counted as the County of Montbéliard and the domination Reichenweier to the left of the Rhine possessions of the house. During the Reformation, the dukes of Württemberg introduced the Reformation, so that the area became Lutheran. For county Horburg included the following locations: Algolsheim; Andolsheim; Appenweier; Bischweier; Drought Nenets; Fort Schweier; Horburg; Munzenheim; Sundhofen; Volgelsheim; Wolfgangen.

In Horburg stood a castle of the Dukes of Württemberg, which, however, was completely destroyed; only one portal can still be seen today City Hall.

Since 1748, the county Hoburg was under French rule in 1793 and ceded to the other possessions left bank to France.

In Wihr -en- Plaine Catholic- Lutheran interdenominational church Saint -Michel is from the 12th century with frescoes from the 16th century.
