Itterswiller

Itterswiller (German Itter hamlet ) is a commune with 263 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. It is situated along the Alsatian Wine Road at the foot of the Vosges.

History

The village is located on a former Roman military road; the area is therefore likely to have been already settled in Roman times. The name is attributed to the Latin expression Itineris villa - Villa of the street / road. The so-called Lettre à d' indulgence Itterswiller dates from the period around 1330.

Attractions

The church in its present form dates from the 18th century, however, still contains parts of earlier buildings. The choir dates from the 14th century, as well as frescoes from this period and a reliquary from the 17th century are preserved.

Fair is October 1; the autumn festival takes place every year in late September or early October.

Others

In 2003 Itterswiller Village Fleuri - flowery village. Remarkable are especially the vine roofs that extend to the roads. Itterswiller has a partnership with the Brehat since 1975. Mayor is currently Robert Keller.
