John Abner Race

John Abner Race ( born May 12, 1914 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, † November 9, 1983 Fond du Lac ) was an American politician. Between 1965 and 1967 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Race attended the common schools and graduated from the University of Wisconsin after. Between 1942 and 1965 he worked in the tool manufacturing. In the years 1963 and 1964 he was a State Board of Education (State Coordinating Committee on Higher Education ) to. From 1960 to 1965 he was a member of the State Committee for vocational education and training for adults. In the years 1958, 1960 and 1962, he was elected District ( County Supervisor) in Fond du Lac County.

Politically Race was a member of the Democratic Party. From 1959 to 1965 he led the chairmanship of the Fond du Lac County. In the congressional elections of 1964 he was in the sixth constituency of Wisconsin in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of William Van Pelt on January 3, 1965. Since 1966, he defeated Republican William A. Steiger during the elections of the year, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1967. These were shaped by the events of the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement.

In 1970 ran unsuccessfully Race for a seat in the Wisconsin State Assembly. After that, he worked in sales for the company Central Electric Supply Co.. He died on November 9, 1983 in Fond du Lac.
