Howard J. McMurray

Howard Johnstone McMurray (* March 3, 1901 in Mount Hope, Harvey County, Kansas; † August 14, 1961 in Albuquerque, New Mexico ) was an American politician. Between 1943 and 1945 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Howard McMurray attended the common schools, the consultants Academy in Kentucky and the High School in Madison. Then he studied until 1936 at the local University of Wisconsin. Previously he had worked from 1923 to 1928 in the insurance industry, where he sold life insurance. From 1928 to 1935 he was transporting some airlines in the management. Between 1936 and 1942 McMurray taught at the University of Wisconsin the subject political science.

Politically McMurray became a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1942 he was in the fifth electoral district of Wisconsin in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican Lewis D. Thill on January 3, 1943. Since he resigned in 1944 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1945. This was marked by the events of the Second World War.

In the years 1944 and 1946, respectively McMurray ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate. 1945 and 1946 he again held lectures in political science at the University of Wisconsin. Between 1947 and 1949 he taught this subject at Occidental College in Los Angeles. Since 1949 he worked in the same capacity at the University of New Mexico. He worked there until his death on 14 August 1961.
