Jim Moody

James Powers "Jim" Moody ( born September 2, 1935 in Richlands, Tazewell County, Virginia ) is a retired American politician. Between 1983 and 1993 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jim Moody attended until 1953 the Anglo American High School in the Greek capital Athens and then to 1957 Haverford College in Haverford (Pennsylvania). Later he studied until 1967 at Harvard University and then to 1973 at the University of California at Berkeley. In the meantime, he interrupted his studies to work 1958-1965 on behalf of CARE International, and later for the Peace Corps in Yugoslavia, Iran and Pakistan. Between 1967 and 1969 he worked for the federal government in the economic sphere. From 1973 to 1976 he taught the subject economics at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

Politically, Moody joined the Democratic Party. From 1977 to 1978 he was a deputy in the Wisconsin State Assembly; between 1979 and 1982 he was a member of the State Senate. In the congressional elections of 1982 he was in the fifth electoral district of Wisconsin in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Henry S. Reuss on January 3, 1983. After four elections he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1993 five legislative sessions.

In 1992, Moody opted not to run again for the U.S. House of Representatives. Instead, he aimed at his party's nomination for election to the U.S. Senate, but went to Russ Feingold. Back in 1988, he had considered a Senate candidacy, but then waived just before the application deadline in favor of Herb Kohl. Between 1995 and 1998, Moody was Vice President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development. From 1998 until 2000 he headed the Association of International Development and Relief Organization. Since 2000, he has taught as a lecturer at the University of Maryland. Moody was also the founder of the National Security Archive.
