Tom Petri

Evert Thomas "Tom" Petri ( born May 28, 1940 in Marinette, Marinette County, Wisconsin) is an American politician. Since 1979 he represents the state of Wisconsin in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Tom Petri visited until 1958 the Lowell P. Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac. Then he studied until 1962 at Harvard University. Then he studied until 1965 at the same university Jura. He subsequently worked at the Federal Judge James Edward Doyle, who was responsible for the western Wisconsin office. He then worked as a private lawyer. In the years 1966 to 1967 Peter was a volunteer in the Peace Corps. From 1969 to 1970 he was on the staff of the White House.

Politically, Peter joined the Republican Party. Between 1973 and 1979 he sat in the Senate from Wisconsin. Since 1973 he was a delegate at all regional Republican party days. In 1974 he ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate, where he lost to incumbent Gaylord Nelson. After the death of Mr William A. Steiger, he was at the due election for the sixth seat of Wisconsin as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on April 3, 1979. After he was confirmed in all subsequent elections, he can exercise his mandate until today. Since he was re-elected again in the congressional elections of 2010, with 71 % of the vote, he will take another two -year term in Congress on January 3, 2011.

He is a member of the education and labor committee, the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and in four sub-committees. During the primaries for the 2008 presidential election Petri Mitt Romney supported. After the nomination of John McCain, he supported his unsuccessful campaign for the presidency. Tom Petri is married to Anne Neal. Private family lives in Fond Du Lac.
