Kyffhäuserkreis

The Kyffhauserkreis is a district in the north of Thuringia. Neighboring districts are belonging to the north of the district of Nordhausen and Saxony-Anhalt district of Mansfeld - South Harz, in the east of the Saale district and the castle district, both also of Saxony -Anhalt, in the south of the county Sömmerda and Unstrut Hainich and west of the county calibration field. Geography

The circle lies in the southeastern Harz foreland. It is characterized by large agricultural areas, which are interrupted by the smallest mountain range in Europe, the Kyffhaeuser, as well as the Windleite and Hainleite. History

The county was established on 1 July 1994 by merging the circuits Artern and special Hausen. While the county was founded in 1952 Artern while the GDR was part of the borough hall, the old district Sondershausen belonged to Thuringia in 1946 and after the dissolution of countries to Erfurt district. Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on 26 October 1994 by the Thuringian State Office of Administration.

The Kyffhauserkreis located in a structurally weak region.
