Lachapelle-sous-Chaux

Lachapelle- sous- Chaux ( formerly Kappeltscha German ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Lachapelle- sous- Chaux is located at 415 m above sea level, about eight kilometers north-northwest of the city of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the foothills of the Vosges, in the Basin of Giromagny, which extends between the Vosges mountains, the hills of the Forêt de Roppe and the Montagne de Salbert, in the plain east of the stream of Rhome.

The area of ​​11.16 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the area of ​​the Vosges foothills. The main part of the territory occupied by the level of the pelvis Giromagny, which is on average 420 m. It is mainly passed with arable and meadow land, but also shows some larger forest areas. The area is drained by the Rhome and its tributaries south to Savoureuse. Along the streams and in hollows there are numerous ponds that were once created for fish farming. Among the most important are the Étangs de la Claire and the Etang de la Veronne and the Etang de Malsaucy on the southern border. To the west of the municipality floor extends into the vast forest area of the Bois de Lachapelle, in the hilly area with 605 m the highest elevation of Lachapelle- sous- Chaux is achieved.

To Lachapelle- sous- Chaux part of the hamlet of Le Malpatey (420 m) in a slightly elevated position on the southern edge of the Bois de Lachapelle. Neighboring communities of Lachapelle- sous- Chaux are Auxelles -Bas in the north, Chaux in the east, and Sermamagny Évette - Salbert in the south and Errevet and Plancher -Bas in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Lachapelle in 1347. Initially standing in the sphere of influence of the Counts of Montbéliard, was LaChapelle always to rule Rosemont. Middle of the 14th century came the village under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Together with the Sundgau came Lachapelle- sous- Chaux with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793, the village belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. In 1883, Lachapelle- sous- Chaux was served by a railway line, which ran from Bas- Évette ( on the main line Belfort Vesoul ) to Giromagny to the French railway network. Since 1938, however, the line is only used for the transportation of goods. Today Lachapelle- sous- Chaux is a member of the comprehensive eight municipalities municipal association Communauté de communes la Haute Savoureuse.

Attractions

The Church of Saint -Vincent was re- built in the second half of the 18th century. Additional area attractions include the rectory and the Musée Gantner.

Population

With 698 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Lachapelle- sous- Chaux is one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1891 594 persons were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Lachapelle- sous- Chaux was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ), fish farming and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some operations of small and medium industries, including the construction industry. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and in the agglomeration Belfort.
