The nuclear power plant Limerick is a nuclear power plant in Limerick, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania in the United States. It is located northwest of Philadelphia. The nuclear power plant consists of two boiling water reactors. The owner and operator is the Exelon Generation.

The reactors

The Limerick nuclear power plant consists of two General Electric boiling water reactors, with a net electrical output of 1134 MWe and a gross capacity of 1194 MWe. The cooling is provided by two cooling towers.

The fuel elements from the closed nuclear power plant were used in the Shoreham nuclear power plant Limerick on. They cost the operator of Limerick almost $ 50 million.

Construction, commissioning and shutdown

Construction of both reactors was on 19 June 1974. The first reactor was first synchronized on 13 April 1985 the power grid and took on February 1, 1986 commercial operation on. The second reactor was synchronized on 1 September 1989 for the first time to the network and went on 8 January 1990 as the penultimate reactor block in the United States in commercial operation on. The cut-off for Limerick 1 is scheduled for 2024. Limerick 2 for 2029
