The Peach Bottom nuclear power plant is a nuclear power plant in the United States of America in the State of Pennsylvania. It is in Peach Bottom, 97 kilometers south of the city of Harrisburg on the west bank of the Susquehanna River. The nuclear power plant has a total of three blocks.

History

The planning for the nuclear power plant began in 1959. Initially, only one block was planned, a helium-cooled high-temperature reactor. Construction of Unit 1 on February 1, 1962. Took the operation of the reactor on 27 January 1967, and went into commercial operation on 1 June 1967. After a brief period of seven years, Block 1 ended on November 1, 1974 from the mains.

In 1966, the blocks were already 2 and 3 planned. The construction of Unit 2 and 3 together began on 31 January 1968. Unit 2 commenced operations on February 18, 1974, block 3 on 1 September 1974. Block 2 changed on 5 July 1974 in commercial operation, block 3 followed on 23 December 1974. both reactors are General Electric boiling water reactor - type GE BWR - 4 reactors each have a MARK -1 containment. The operating license of Unit 2 will expire on August 8, 2033, the. The cost of the blocks came from block 3 on July 2, 2034 to approximately $ 1.2 billion. Block 3 of the nuclear power plant was in 1980 the world with the second highest annual production.

The plant employs about 600 workers. The wage costs amount to approximately $ 50 million annually. For local real estate Exelon will pay up to $ 1.3 million annually.

After a three-month test of a nuclear power plant personnel large defects have been found. Several security guards were doing their sleep during the work. This was found after end of the test on 25 September 2007. It could be a terrorist attack to take place during this time and thus bring the plant in very great danger.
