The Saint Lucie nuclear power plant is a nuclear power plant on Hutchinson Iceland near Port St. Lucie, St. Lucie County in the U.S. state of Florida. Both units are pressurized water reactors of the Combustion Engineering Company.

The plant is operated since 1976 by Florida Power & Light.

The two reactors of the plant are housed in two different buildings. The unit has no cooling tower, but is cooled by sea water.

History

With the construction of the first reactor block was started on 1 July 1970. For the other block construction began on 2 May 1977. The first reactor was first critically on 7 May 1976. The second reactor block was followed on 13 June 1983. On 21 December 1976, the first and on August 8, 1983, the second reactor unit went into commercial operation.
