The nuclear power plant is an unfinished Bellefonte nuclear power plant in Scottsboro, Alabama in the United States of America. The site should be once built two pressurized water reactors. The construction but was stopped in 1988.

History

The nuclear power plant Bellefonte was planned since 1970. Construction of Unit 1 and 2: September 1st, 1974. Both 1263 -MW reactors should be built by the Babcock -Brown Boveri reactor GmbH. The construction was stopped in 1988 but due to lack of financial resources. At that time, Block 1 was completed at about 88 % and Unit 2 to 58%. On 15 September 2006, the operator and owner of TVA had the license to build the blocks 1 and 2 cancel.

As part of the U.S. nuclear program was discussed since 30 October 2007 about whether two reactors at the site will be created by the Westinghouse AP1000 and initiated approval process. Furthermore, should a new application for the building permit of Units 1 and 2 and these are completed. In August 2009, the energy company TVA withdrew the plans for the four blocks and announced to consider three options:

  • The completion of only one reactor started
  • The construction of only one AP1000 reactor
  • The completion of all four construction projects

A decision will be taken in the spring of 2010.
